Is Aging In Your Home Right For You?

You’ve made your retirement plans and you’re living the Golden Years dream! There’s always a what’s next. So what’s next? Can you live all your retired years in your home? Whether that’s a house, condo, mobile…. of course you can! Are there services out there that allow you to stay in your home until you pass. Yes, of course!

Cleaners, estheticians, maintenance companies, landscapers, nurses or care aid - they will all come to you! Does it cost more? Most of the time yes - have you seen the cost of gas today? But, still possible. Working out your financial plan for your golden years is very important. Even if you did have too many martini’s at lunch or go on that extra trip to Italy, there might still be a way to financially afford it. A financial advisor or even a mortgage broker can help you figure that part out.

But, besides the financial draws - do you want to? Do you get lonely or are you surrounded by friends & family? Is it a healthy and viable option for you personally to grow elderly at home. Some people are very social and outgoing and continue to explore and see their friends and family. Or, have joined clubs or groups or the gym. Anything that gets you out and about is extremely important for you body and mind. For those people I’d say yes - live it out at home.

The other option is to find an alternate home - there are communities created for seniors and their wellbeing. With events and lunches, and other much needed services. Don’t say no to these as there are many different versions of what the complexes and communities can look like. Go out for tours of the different models and see how they make you feel. Some you buy into, some are rentals, some are private or are owned by the government.

Only you know yourself well enough to know which is the smartest option to ensure you stay safe and healthy! You also want to make that choice before the burdens of such decisions fall to someone else (family, friends, social services).

Do your research and communicate your wishes!
